When Traveling...

I recently went to the beautiful Sun Valley Idaho area to teach my Geese Migration quilt and present a quilt show.  I was invited by the 5Bee Quilt Guild and had a wonderful time.  I even met some fellow bloggers - Barb at Mountain Quiltworks and Janice at Color, Creating and Quilting. 

Both are sweet at pie!

And in between events, what to do except check out the sites and visit the local quilt store.

Luckily I had a bit of room in my luggage for these lovelies I just had to bring home.  I bought some rather large cuts of these cross weaves.  The top is a lovely blue/purple by Moda and the bottom two are by Robert Kaufman.

 I also found this black and white print that I have been wanting for a project in my head.  And lucky me, it was on sale.  The plaid I just needed because it was pretty!

So hopefully now I am done buying fabrics for a bit.

But summer travels could have me visiting new to me quilt stores :)

Oh Scrap! : Sunday Stash

I had the opportunity to go on a quilt store adventure Friday with a friend so I don't have any scrappy quilting to share this week.  But I do have a few little purchases to show you!

I guess I was in a navy, gray and white kind of mood because almost all of the half yards I picked up for my stash were in those colors.  No plans for these...I just really liked them or they were just too good a price to leave behind.

I bought only two larger cuts on my travels - the grunge is for a pillow project I hope to share soon and the yellow is for a backing.  My yellow stash is really slim right now!

But my favorite little purchase....

 In a tiny store in Sweet Home called Seamingly Creative they had a bunch of pre-made sewn items.  Among them were some little towel dresses to hang on your oven door.  The orange and turquoise one was just too perfect for my vintage kitchen and for $5 it was snatched up quickly!

The weather was beautiful and my co-pilot did a great job keeping us within the Oregon state lines.

Stash Additions

I have been very naughty lately!

It is not very often that I NEED a whole collection of fabric but recently there have been a couple that no amount of constraint could prevent me from owning!

Blueberry Park by Karen Lewis!  I can't even describe how much I love the colors in this collection.  I have had these two fat quarter bundles in my wholesale cart for months but just couldn't justify buying them.  Then, Craftsy had them for less than what it would cost me to get them through wholesale so I jumped at the chance.  You will be seeing these fabrics pop up in a few projects I am sure.  But right now I am just enjoying their loveliness!

Carolyn Friedlander is another designer I love.  I did resist getting the entire Carkai collection, but I had to have the Carkai coordinate bundle.  Some of my favorite prints in some yummy colors.

Now hopefully, I can resist any other purchases.  My fabric no longer fits in its home and has spilled out into another room.  Time for me to focus on getting some of it sewn up so I can close the closet door again!

Sunday Stash

It has been a long time since I have shared some of my fabric acquisitions. Rest assured I have still been picking up some new fabrics for future projects.  I just have not allowed myself to start too many new things.  There are just too many other WIPs around my sewingroom that need my attention right now.

I did purchase a fat quarter bundle of Melody Miller's Playful and a great Cotton + Steel blue backing.  I don't have a plan for this one yet but I adore this fabric so whatever gets made will be for me!

A recent trip to my favorite local quilt store (Quiltwork Patches in Corvallis Oregon) had me buying up some backing pieces for my stash.  I like to buy 4 or 5 yard pieces when I see a great deal.  And around $5 a yard is a great price!  I do have projects in mind for two of these - the rest I know will eventually find a home. 

Yesterday I received some happy mail from the Fat Quarter Shop.  I took advantage of their basic of the month sale and picked up these 4 yard pieces of Basic Grey's Grunge fabric.  I enjoy having lots of different background fabrics in my stash - and when I can get them on sale, I enjoy it that much more!

I also added these fun polka dot fabrics in to the mix.  I won them from Diann over at Little Penguin Quilts.  I have a few ideas on how to use them swirling around in my head but I haven't made a final decision yet. 

Diann also tucked in this adorable little pincushion made from some Gleeful scraps.  I absolutely love it!  In fact, I now have it in my livingroom so I can use it for pins/needles rather than my sofa back like I have done in the past.  Thanks Diann!

I think there have been a few other pieces that have found their way to my house.  I will try and be a little better at sharing what I am buying.  I know I always like to see what fabrics people buy and in what quantity.  I will be linking up with Molli Sparkles.  

It will be fun to what fabrics other quilters are adding to their stash.

 

Solid Stash Additions

I have been trying really hard lately to reduce my stash.  I still occasionally buy pieces from new collections but I am definitely more selective about what I purchase.  But there is one type of fabric that I really like to have on hand.  And those are solids!

I have been considering for quite some time to join one of those monthly solid stash clubs.  But many of them are fat quarters and I wanted something in bigger cuts.

So when I won a free trial of a monthly Kona half yard club at Canton Village Quiltworks, I was over the moon and anxious to give it a try.  (Thank you Rachel at Stitched in Color for the giveaway!)  These pretty pinks and purples are what I received in February.  I decided to go ahead and try it out for six months and see how I like it.

Just this week I received my shipment for March.  I was a little disappointed it was just greens but not enough for me to give up on the club.  The price is definitely right and it does include shipping.

I haven't felt the need to cut into any of these yet.  For now I am enjoying their pretty colors up on the shelf as I finish off some other projects.

Starting Something New!

Thanks to Leanne at She Can Quilt and The Fat Quarter Shop, I got to do a little fabric shopping! I was lucky enough to win a gift card for my participation in January 's Scraptastic Tuesday event.  And it didn't take me very long to put together a big order!

I have been planning a quilt using this lovely stack of Arizona fabrics by Art Gallery Fabrics. I needed a few more fabrics that would coordinate-so a shopping I did go!

Here is the lovely fabrics that made it into my final shopping cart.

 Don't they look lovely all together?!  I can't wait to get started on the quilt.

And while I was shopping, I also picked up a couple of large cuts out of the sale section for future backings.  I like having these on hand for finishing up quilts.

Sunday Stash - Market Bling

Did I get some very happy mail this week!  Just before Christa (of Christa Quilts) went to market, she announced she was going to be sharing some of the samples and such she picked up at market with four of her readers.  Needless to say I signed up for a chance right away!  Imagine my joy when I found out I was one of the winners.   I was even happier when I saw how big and the package was.

There were thread samples from Coats and Aurifil. 

A great bag pattern from Sara Lawson of Sew Sweetness.

Lots of great fabrics in all sorts of sizes and prints.  Each and every one are going to be put to good use.  I especially loved the mini charms of the Kona Solids, Moda's Feed Company (swoon) and More Hearty Good Wishes (also by Moda).  The little fat quarter bundle of AMB solids was pretty nice too!

 And there was also some other fun samples of products and a Moda bag (which is great because I live in a "no plastic-bring your own bag" city).

It all Happened so Quickly!

It all started when I got a little email from Katie at The Littlest Thistle letting me know I had won a gift certificate to the Knotted Thread for an entry in the Q2 Finish-Along for 2014.  Once I completed my little happy dance, I perused the shop...

and picked out this lovely half yard bundle of Simply Style by V & Co.  I fell in love with the colors.

Okay, so maybe this second half yard bundle of Alison Glass' Bike Path Sun Prints also made it into my shopping cart.  I deserve it, right?!?

 They made me so happy when they arrived. Almost too pretty to open!  And then as I was contemplating what to make with them....

I saw a great sale on the newest Kona colors at Gotcha Covered Quilting and had another moment of weakness and bought some one yard pieces.  My cart originally had them all but I managed to whittle them down to just these eight.

Thinking I had gotten my need for new fabric out of my system, my friend and I thought we would drop into a LQS that moved to a new building just to check it out.  And I fell hard for these Mod Geek prints by Robert Kaufman.  But this fabric isn't for me - I NEED it for the graduation quilt I am making my niece.

These additional Arizona prints are for me.  I have admired them on line but when I saw them in person, there was no way I was leaving without them.  So soft and so beautiful!

 But the really funny thing is I allowed myself to buy this giant 16.5" ruler with the agreement that I wouldn't buy any fabric this month.  Silly me...

Really. Should. Know. Better.

Sunday Stash + Giveaway

This post should actually be titled Thankful Sunday...as I truly am thankful for so many things.

 I am thankful for bloggers like Maureen Cracknell who put together this beautiful bundle and for the Fat Quarter Shop who sponsor such generous giveaways.  

And I am very thankful for my luck because I did in fact win this beautiful bundle.

I have always been intrigued by the colors Maureen uses in a lot of her beautiful quilts as they are colors and prints I don't think I would put together.  So being able to play with her fabric bundle and see how the fabrics played together in real life has been eye opening.

Upon getting the package, I did have to open it up and stack the prints various ways.

I was really intrigued by the solids. A black, a citron green and a mint green.

And to top it off, these very graphic prints are in the mix too!

I truly cannot wait to play with all of these.  Being challenged by working outside my usual box is so exciting to me.  I know I will learn a lot working with Maureen fabrics.  I am already forming an idea for a quilt in my mind.  Hope to have some time soon to start playing.

But the best surprise last week was this little message that was in my in-box!

I'm truly thankful for all of you who continue to follow along with what I am up to.
