Currently, we are well into making Happy Blocks for Compassion Quilts. But I haven't taken the time to let you know how we did on the Color Stix block drive.
The Color Stix block drive started on June 1st. Above are some samples of blocks. I know some of you didn't have a lot of solids and really wanted to be able to use prints but now that the drive is over, I hope you now see they were very important to the quilt designs.
I received 1297 blocks from 45 people. I did have 49 blocks leftover from the drive but I will use them
in the future. I could have made one more quilt but the colors were all over the place so the resulting quilt would not have been very pretty.
We were able to make a total of 30 quilts!
This is the first Color Stix quilt that got made. I used various orphan blocks on a number of the quilts to make them look unique (and to use up those orphan blocks).
This drive (and block) were designed to help me use up all the "difficult" backing I had on the shelf. For many of the quilts, I was able to grab a backing and then pick out blocks that went with the backing.
Most of the block layouts were alternating blocks. But there were a few quilts laid out differently - like the quilt above.
I think this one was my favorite. I added in a few orphan blocks and I love how they look in the finished quilt.
During this block drive, I was so pleased with the additional backing fabrics I received and the prepared bindings that some of you sent. Thanks so much!
We will definitely make these blocks again in the future. It probably won't be next year but maybe in 2025. It was a great way to use up some backings that were stagnating in the stash.

If you want to contribute blocks or fabric to the current block drive, you can go to this post. We are making Happy Blocks and focusing on making quilts for kids.
I have already received so many Happy Blocks already.
There are going to be so many fun, colorful quilts made!
I so appreciate your support!
Another way you can help out - if you make a purchase at any of these companies, use my affiliate links on my blog. The money I make in commissions goes right back into buying backings and batting for the Compassion Quilts project. Thanks so much!

That was a huge success!
your favorite is my favorite - love that one. Do you take blocks of any sizes for this donation quilts that you make? I can look and see what I have - I'm not sure what sizes they are
Thank you for reminding me that I want to make a guy’s quilt in Color Stix.

Super showing of those blocks! You did good putting them all together.
Thanks for the link reminding me about the Happy Blocks. I printed the page out so I can remember to make some.
You made so many fun quilts with those blocks. My favorite is the purple/blue version.
I love how much support you are continuing to receive for the blocks and compassion quilts. Well done, everyone!
1297 blocks -- your mail carrier must have had some comments with each day's delivery! Hooray for 30 quilts!!
I'm curious about the curvy orphan blocks. Are they arcs from a Wedding Ring?
Great support for all your Compassion Quilt block drives. The variety of blocks from so many quilters help to create interesting, colorful and beautiful quilts. Enjoy creating!
Thanks for the Block Drive wrap up post. That block really did work to solve your problem of using up some Orphan blocks and "difficult" backings, Cynthia! Each quilt is unique and will surely be loved.
