A Really Big Finish!

I am so happy to announce I am finally releasing another pattern.
This one is called Spin!

This pretty blue and white one I made using half yard cuts but it is also designed to use scraps.  As you can see, even the border is pieced!

I really have a soft spot in my heart for two colored quilts.  And I love taking a traditional block and putting a new spin on it.  In this case, I did that literally!

My original quilt was made in red and light gray.  It is a perfect pattern for a confident beginner or the seasoned quilter.  The pattern has clear instructions and diagrams to help ensure success.  The reason this pattern has taken so long is I have been working with a graphic artist and now it is professionally formatted so I can start getting it out to stores soon.

Just like I have done with all of my patterns, I have created a Spin! Pinterest board sharing quilts made using this pattern.  It is a great place to see how others are using my patterns!

As you can see, I have gone a little crazy and started making one in every color!

If you would like to buy this pattern, it is available as a pdf download through my Etsy shop or through my Payhip Pattern Store.  To celebrate, I thought I would put all of my patterns on sale through Sunday May 1st - including this Spin! pattern.  So this weekend is a great time to grab those patterns because sometime Monday, they will be increased to their regular price.

And what is a pattern release without a giveaway!  You can win your own pdf copy of the pattern (I will credit you back if you have already purchased it) and to get you started, I will send you a half yard of two Kona solids.

You can choose Kona Ash and Kona Navy...

...or you can pick Kona Lipstick to go with the Kona Ash.

I would have a hard time choosing between these colors.

There are two ways to enter.  1) The first is to just leave me a comment letting me know which Kona combination you would like to win. 2) For an additional entry, help me share this new pattern.  Pin it, tweet it, share it on your Facebook - however you want to help me spread the word is fine by me.  Then just leave a comment letting me know how you shared it.  I really do appreciate it!

International readers are welcome to enter BUT, due to high shipping costs, I may not be able to ship the fabrics.  I will just need to play it by ear.  But if you should win, I will still send you a .pdf of any or even all of my patterns.

Please make sure you’re not a no-reply commenter (or leave an email address in your comment if you’re not sure). You cannot win if I cannot get a hold of you!

The giveaway will end on Sunday May 1st at 9 pm PST.
Good Luck!

*****This giveaway is closed. The winner is #2 Jayne of Twiggy and Opal. ******

Up on the Design Walls

When my quilting friends visit my home, the first thing they ask is to see what is up on my design walls. I know I always like to see what others are working on so I thought I would occasionally feature what is up on my walls.

I have the luxury of having three design walls. (I know...you can be jealous.)  Two in my small sewing room (it is an inner room so I don't have any windows to deal with) and a giant one that holds two queen size quilts in my quilting studio (where my longarm is).

In my sewing room, one wall is slowly filling with my neutral string blocks. I have been trying to sew 5 blocks at a sitting.  I am loving that I found a home for all these brown tones I don't really use much any more.

On the other wall, I am working on one of my really old WIPs.  I started this Kaffe Fassett quilt over 5 years ago.  All of the pieces were cut and some of the blocks were sewn when it got put in a bag and stuffed in a drawer.  Now I just have to sew it all together and remake some of the blocks that are missing.  It is definitely getting closer to a finish!

And finally, this is the view I have while I am standing at my longarm.  My Quilty 365 blocks are on the left, in the center are my blocks using the Craftsy Boundless solids and on the right are the blocks I have completed for my Splendid Sampler.

It is hard to choose which project to work on!

Oh Scrap! : It's String Time!

With the exception of one crazy rainstorm (that I liked to think was doves crying), our springtime has been beautiful!  But I am not talking about Spring in this post - I am talkin' about Strings!

For about 6 months now, I have had a plastic tub next to my cutting table where I have been tossing all the neutral colored strings and scrappy bits that I came across.  In it there are lots of browns, tans, creams and grays.  It is almost over-flowing so I think it is time I turned these into a string quilt.

So this weekend, I cut some muslin foundations so I can get started on some string blocks.  I am using the same technique I shared for the Scrap-A-Palooza quilt I made back in August of 2014.

Lots of mindless sewing is in my future!  How about you?

OMG - Sewing from my Stash

I am on a roll!

For the fourth month in a row, I have succeeded in pulling some older stash fabric and turning it into a quilt by the end of the month.

At the beginning of April, I started with this stack of fabric.  Many of these have been in my stash for maybe a decade.

Using my Accuquilt fabric cutter and my 2.5" strip die, I quickly cut a lot of the fabric into strips.

I decided to revisit a quilt I have made many times in the past.  It is made up of just two blocks.  A square that finishes at 6" and a rectangle that finishes at 6 x 12".  They sew up super fast!

In no time at all, I had a finished quilt!
I have pulled many of these fabrics countless times over the years and always struggled with color choices.  I am not sure I like the green or the browns I used but I needed something to break up all that red.

But the quilt is finished and there is no changing my mind now.  Not only is that old fabric not taking up space on the shelf but I was also able to use a piece for the backing that I thought I would have to store forever.

The quilt is actually a nice rich red.  Once I saw the photos should probably be retaken, the sun was going down and my camera battery was dead. Ugh!

There is still some big chunks of some of the fabrics still left.  I might try and take another stab at the colors....or maybe I will just work them into future scrap quilts!   :)

I am just happy I accomplished my One Month Goal for the month of April.  A big thanks to Heidi over at Red Letter Quilts for hosting the OMG event every month.

Oh Scrap! : Column Along Blocks and Destash

The weather here has been beautiful so now I am often torn between time in my sewing room and time outdoors.  This week, rather than pull weeds, I decided to finish up this month's blocks for my Rainbow Sampler quilt with So Scrappy.

Angela refers to these as Wacky Pinwheels.  Once again, I decided to fade my blocks from light to dark and use Kona Snow for all the background.

Here are all my blocks to date.  I think this quilt is going to be so pretty when it gets put together.

Another project I worked on this week was putting together some destash bags of fabric to sell in my Etsy shop.  I have over grown my fabric storage area and even though these are all fabrics I use, I am finding it is necessary to destash a bit.  The lots are all by color or theme and weigh anywhere from 1 lb to 1.5 lbs.  That is over 3 yards to a package.  If you are looking to round out your scrap stash, it is a great deal.

And if you make a purchase and can use some smaller scraps, just leave me a comment on the order and the color(s) you want and I will gladly top off the envelope!  (I hope to be adding more bags soon so be sure and check back.)

Another Scrap Finish

Quilts sure go together so quickly when you don't have to do a bunch of cutting!

It wasn't that long ago that I grabbed this bag of batik fabric strips I saved from a project I abandoned.  I knew they would be perfect for one of my Scrap-A-Palooza quilts.

I have been wanting to go back and revisit the color block string quilt I made back in  March of 2014.  This time I wanted to place colors so they looked like they were woven into the quilt.

I don't have a lot of batik fabric in my stash nowadays, so I did have to raid a friends stash for a few red and pinks.  But I was able to find enough to get the look I wanted.

And thankfully the only batik I had that was big enough for a backing looks great with the top.

This quilt is one of the donation quilts I made for the Hands2Help donation quilt drive at Confessions of a Fabric Addict.  This one will be going to Happy Chemo.

And there have been a few finishes of this design by others that I don't think I featured once they were completed.

Vicki over at Vicki's Crafts used her green strings and finished up this lovely quilt in January.

She calls it String Beans!

What I great idea to use all one color.

And I don't think I ever shared Alycia's final finish on the one she finished back in June.  I love the rows of color!
This is a great pattern for quickly sewing up those string scraps.  There are a number of layout options.  If you are looking for some ideas for your scraps, don't forget to check out the Scrap-A-Palooza gallery.  You will find lots of ideas there!

2016 FAL                                                                                                  This quilt was on my list of second quarter finishing goals.   A big thanks to the group of bloggers hosting this event this year.
