Oh Scrap! : Last of the Blue RSC

….I think it's Sunday?!

Like so many other people, I am finding my days all running together.
Every day usually looks just like the day before.

Longarm quilting, gardening, sewing masks, exercising, cooking, and repeat....

I really haven't been working on my own quilt projects much lately.  I did realize I still had the blue blocks for one of my Rainbow scrap challenge quilts to finish.

While I do love navy, I am not a big fan of blue so I am happy to be moving onto another color soon.
I am hoping for purple!  :)

A Practical Thing and Some Pretty Quilts

Here is my finish for the week.  Can you guess what it is?

Here is a bit of a back story.  For years now, I have been trying to minimize the amount of garbage I create.  And I have to say, this covid business can sure challenge that goal.

The last time I went to the grocery store, I didn't want to use a single use sanitizing wipe (or trust that they were previously wiped down well), so I grabbed a clean hand towel from home to wrap around the handle of the cart.

Well, I have another trip planned to the store and this time, I thought I would make a cover I could wrap around the handle and then take it home and toss it in the wash.

I knew I had some pre-quilted candy cane fabric I bought long ago for some crafty item.  I used an empty toilet paper roll to get the size correct and grabbed some Velcro bits to close it all up.  I dug through my leftover binding bits for a piece that was long enough and got to sewing.  Because I figured I would someday accidently leave this behind, I didn't really care if it won any beauty awards.

It worked wonderfully!

If you don't have Velcro, you could use any kind of closure you want.  You could easily add ties, a button loop system or maybe snaps.  Just dig though your supplies and see what you have.  I would just make it easy to attach or if you have to struggle to get it on, you kind of defeat the purpose of the cover.

I might have to make one or two more of these.  I think in the future, it will always be a good idea to protect oneself.

Now onto to some happy things, I received this photo of a Spin! quilt someone made using my pattern.  It looks fantastic!
She pulled all the fabric from her scraps and existing stash.  Yay!

Here is one in progress - love those rich brown tones!

And I received this one of a Geese Migration quilt.  Isn't it wonderful!

I really miss teaching these two classes and spending the day with other quilters!!
Hopefully someday soon....

Have a Happy Friday!

Oh Scrap! : Fumbling Around

Most of my time lately has been spent quilting client quilts (because everyone is sewing right now) and making face masks (because my family needs them).  This is not giving me a lot of time to let my personal creativity flow.  So I am finding myself in a real funk lately.

So I decided to spend some time getting out some scraps and making a block that I have been thinking about for weeks.  The test block is a bit crooked but I do like the possibilities in it.  It will finish at 13" square and now I just need to think about how I want to use the block.  I could make it an RSC block and make a rainbow of block colors.  Or I could make each block in a rainbow.
Hmmm...More to ponder on this one!

I also remembered I need to get crackin' on my 2020 Hands2Help quilts.  As I was thinking about what I could make, my eyes landed on my overflowing bin of leftover binding pieces.

In no time I was starting to sew.

I decided to pair up red/orange/gold strips with purple/blue strips and make some 16 patch blocks.
This design is one of my Scrap-A-Palooza quilts and I describe my process here

I had to toss these blocks on the floor because all of my design walls are full and they seem to be projects I don't want to work on.  It was far more interesting to think about new quilts!

Because I have been so busy during this time of Isolation, I have been thinking lately that I need a Staycation...Isn't that silly sounding! 😂

I think I have been locked up way too long....

A Bright Baby Quilt

Looking for a quick baby quilt finish?

I just finished this cutie and the top went together in just a couple hours.

I grabbed a bunch of odd solid chunks in a rainbow of colors and cut them into half hexies using my Hex n More ruler.

I had this playful fabric that I had a bunch of long strips leftover from the trimming of a previous quilt's backing.  I cut them up into a uniform width (and even had enough to cut some binding strips).

I quilted a combination of serpentine, straight and looped lines for the quilting.  I used the serpentine in the floral and in the ditch area. The loopy and straight lines in the solids just adds some fun.

I ended up piecing three large leftover pieces of a lime green fabric to make a backing for this quilt.  I was able to match the print so you barely see the seam lines.

I love that all of this quilt was made from the leftovers from previous quilts.
It feels good to move these bits out of my sewing room and create something so cute.

I am going to have to dig around and see what else I can find!

Oh Scrap! : Blue

Between garden cleanup and mask preparation, I didn't get a lot of scraps sewn this week.

But I did cut and sew some blue scraps for one of my RSC quilts.
These three blocks bring my total up to 15 so I am now at the halfway point.  I must have started this project last year for me to have so many.  But I have 5 colors completed!

What I really should be working on is finishing old UFOs.  I haven't touched a single one since I have been sheltered at home.

What type of projects are you sewing?
