More Pretty Finishes

Lately, we have been seeing a lot of finishes.

Here are just a few....

I don't remember who sent them, but we received a big bag of HSTs.  Each one had a warm color and a cool color.  I think they were 4.5" square.  Jeanne took them home and created this amazing layout.  And thanks to Christy, we had this great floral fabric for the back.

Ages ago, Kat had sent me a big bag of black/white squares.  I think I made two big quilts out of them.  I still had a few more so I added some of my own squares and created this final smaller quilt.  We put a lovely dark turquoise flannel on the back sent in by Kristin.

Joni emailed me to ask if I could use some patriotic tops she finished.  Of course, my answer was Yes!  I have not seen this panel before but it sure makes an amazing quilt.  Joni also supplied the backing and the binding fabric.  I have one more quilt to share but it is out being quilted right now.

I have had a layercake hiding away in my stash for a long time.  I am not even sure where it came from because it is not something I would buy.  I decided to send it, along with a pattern, home with Charlene and she brought me back this lovely quilt top.  The fabrics on the back went perfectly with the collection on the front.

This quilt was made from another kit that was donated.  Barb did a great job assembling the quilt top - it was made entirely from charm squares.  Kristin donated the backing fabric and Chris sewed the binding on for us.

I love this giant geese top that Mina sent us.  It is a simple design but so stunning and colorful. I think a teenager will really cherish this. The bright blue backing was sent in by Elizabeth and local quilter Laura finished it off with an amazing quilt design.

A huge thanks to the volunteers and donors who help make all these quilts happen.
We really appreciate you! 💖

Oh Scrap! : The Next Scrap Quilt

I have finished all of my scrap quilts, so I decided to start a new one this weekend. Looking on the scrap shelf, I see there are a lot of purple and pink chunks of fabric. I also recently received a few fat quarters of white-on-white fabric. I decided to start there!

I didn’t want to choose a block that required a bunch of cutting or sewing. Putting together a scrap top quickly is my goal. Keeping up with all the scraps is becoming quite a challenge - especially the storage of all them.  And we know I am unable to toss any of them!

I decided to go with a snowball block. I cut the colored prints at 6.5” square and the squares for the flip corners at 2”. I don’t think it will take me long to make the 99 blocks I need for a top. Who knows, maybe I will end up making two quilts!

What is your favorite go-to scrap block?

Beth and Carol’s Quilts

Lots of quilts to share today!

Beth and her friend Carol have been busy making donation quilts and they decided to send a dozen to Many Hands and Many Hearts ❤️

Yep, they were all quilted and bound…all I had to do was add the label and get them delivered.

Beth made this one. I love the animal panel she used- it is so bright and colorful.
Prefect for lifting someone’s spirit.

A fun little giraffe quilt made by Beth.  Every time I see a yellow and black combination I wonder why I don't make one myself.

Most of the quilts sent were smaller but this dragonfly and floral quilt is a nice larger lap size.  Very simple piecing but the pretty prints are lovely to see.  Beth also made this one.

Carol sent a total of three quilts.  This lovely batik is the first one I will share.

I thought this hot air ballon one by Carol was a lot of fun.  Great pattern for those fussy cut balloons.

Beth made this sweet batik little quilt.  I think it is 35" square.  We do get requests for a few smaller quilts so I like to have them on hand.

Janet questioned whether I had the label on the right side of this silly alligator quilt.  It is lovely on both sides.  Beth made this one so she will have to let us know if I got it right,

Dinosaurs are really popular with young boys, so I was really happy to see this quilt made by Beth.

Next up is turtles.  Beth really did a great job taking a small piece of a novelty print and adding borders to make it bigger.  I know all of these will be loved.

And lastly, Beth made another quilt from some whale fabric. I love the big blue bubbles on the back.

Here is Carol's third quilt.  For some reason, I don't think I have a photo of the backing.  Janet and I ended up taking photos of over 20 quilts and maybe I missed some.  The leaf fabrics look like they are maybe hand dyed and real leaves were used.  Very intriguing!

I didn't get a backing picture on this one either.  I love the panel that Beth started with.  I also loved to look at the quilting on all of these quilts.  Beth and Carol did a great job!

I really want to thank these two for their generosity.  Our shelves are nice and stocked - ready for some deliveries next week!

Oh Scrap! : String Top

I thought I would take some time this week to sew some string blocks into a top.  I usually add some sashing but I decided to just go with a simple 6 x 7 layout.

I think these blocks came from a number of donors.  Some used paper foundations, some used fabric foundations and some used no foundation at all.

Here is my silly string block secret....you can tell which blocks I made because I tend to use icky fabric for my foundations.  I had a bunch of the panels that you can cut out, stuff and make animals out of.  Most of the time these cannot be used in quilt tops, so I use them for my foundations.  Because these blocks are mostly darks and mediums, the printed material doesn't show through the front.

This helps me use every bit of fabric!

What a Week!

This has been a crazy week! Lots of big fabric donations coming through the door, huge boxes arriving full of finished quilts and bags of "kits" to be completed by our volunteers being made and distributed.  We are all working hard to keep up!

So today, I only have a few finished quilts to share because we are behind on photographs.

We did finish another Jewel Box quilt.  Janet laid out these blocks a long time ago and I have just gotten around to sewing up the quilt top. We put a lovely purple flannel on the back.

This quilt was assembled from a layercake donated by Karen.  The lovely striped fabric on the back came from Kat and local quilter Terry finished it up.

Thanks, Barb, for assembling the quilt top!

Kristin sent in this lovely blue quilt top.  We decided to put some smaller cuts of RWB fabric we had on the back.  These came from Holly and Karen.  Local quilter Laura quilted and sewed the binding on for finish it up.

Here is a fun quilt top that came from Kristi.  The lovely floral on the back was sent in by Mari.

This quilt top was made by Chris.  I knew it existed, but I couldn't find it for the longest time.  It was finally discovered in a wrong pile so now it is ready to go off and make someone smile.  Especially with that flannel sushi backing!

Jean made this happy star quilt top.  I have never tried this block, but it is definitely on my list.  I might have to try it for a future block drive!  What do you guys think?

Hope you all have a wonderful weekend.  Spring is definitely here, and I am trying to enjoy the sunny days before it gets hot.  Stay tuned for lots more photos next week!
