Placemats for May

In April, I finished my pink placemats really early in the month.  So I decided to get out my black and multi-colored scraps and work on those.

Boy, do I have a lot to share this month!

Here are six I made from black scraps.  I always try and sort them into alike colors.

Here are four more.  I ran out of solid black fabric for the bindings so I have been using some coordinating grays and browns.

I also took a deeper dive into my orphan blocks and pulled out bits to make these 6 placemats.

I even disassembled a pillow cover I had made years ago as a class sample on English Paper Piecing.
I no longer teach the class so making a placemat from the piece turns it into something useful.

Now I am working on the green scraps for May.
So far I only have two that have the bindings completed.

I added these 19 to my existing stack of completed placemats.
That brings the grand total to 99!

(These placemats are all trimmed to 11 x 15 and will be donated to Meals on Wheels.  My goal is to have them handed out with one of the holiday meals.)

I keep waiting for these to make a big dent in my scraps but so far I am not seeing it!

I can vouch that making mini mini quilts don't seem to make a dent in scraps, and placemats honestly aren't too much larger. But wow, 99 placemats! This is going to turn into an amazing donation! <3

It's amazing how complex a simple pattern can look with the right fabrics.

Wow! Such a huge number of finished placemats. My favorite of this post was the class sample. What a wonderful way to turn a sample into a useful item! A close second were the orphan block placemats. What a terrific gift to brighten someone's meal during the holidays.

99 placemats! How wonderful to make them for Meals on Wheels. I'm sure the recipients will love their very own placemat when they are given out.

Whew!...99 placemats! Great work to cheer others. I love that you repurposed a pillow cover! I’ve made several and some I hardly ever pull out to use. And I NEED a few placemats! So those little used pillow covers are going to become fun placemats. I’m so excited for this inspiration from you. Thanks for sharing!
