Christmas in May?

Take a peek at the pretty fabrics I have put together for a quick project to make next month.

Yes, I am sewing with Christmas fabrics in May!

I am working with the Fat Quarter Shop again to make one of their wonderful patterns.  I ordered the two Bonnie & Camille Vintage Holiday charm packs and the white Kona solid but the asterisk fabric I will use on the back came from my stash.

I hope to share a finished project in a couple weeks so I had better get sewing.

Stay Tuned!

Oh Scrap! : I Can Count

I have been sewing away on my Kaffe Fassett scrappy blocks all week.  Once I figured out how many blocks I needed, I cut enough center squares and just chain pieced away.  Once I ran out of squares, I put them back up on the design wall.

I am happy to say I counted right!

Now I need to decided on a background color to set the blocks in.  I am pretty sure I am going to use a skinny sashing between all the blocks to break up the colors a bit.  These blocks are 8.5" so with the sashing, it will be a nice sized lap quilt.

And for giggles, this is the usual condition of the area around my sewing machine.
It is my happy place :)

Finish Number One

A few weeks ago, I shared a bin of fabric I received from a friend and wondered how many quilts I could make from all the fabric.

Well, I am ready to share finish number one!
One hundred percent of the fabrics came out of the bin.

All of the fabrics appear to be from Australia.  For this first quilt, I simply cut a bunch of 4.5" squares and went with a simple patchwork.  I focused on cutting all of the smaller pieces of scraps and leaving any large cuts for future quilts.

There are so many fun designs in these prints.

I even had enough fabric in the bin to piece together a backing and a binding.

The yellow piece is a wonderful kangaroo print which looked great with some larger purple prints from the bin.

It is a simple patchwork quilt but there is so much to look at and enjoy.  Now I will see if my friend wants this finished quilt.  (Otherwise, it will probably be the quilt I send off to Bernie for a Hands2Help donation quilt.)  My Friend may want to wait and see what I do next!

Quilt number two is already started!

Oh Scrap! : A New Start

I have been trying to get my sewing room cleaned up a bit lately.  This is always dangerous for me because I tend to get inspired and start new projects.  Yes, we all know where this is going....

I have a big tub of Kaffe Fassett scraps under my cutting table.  As I considered breaking it down into their appropriate color bins, I noticed there were a number of large scrap pieces in there.  Well, they somehow fell under my rotary cutter and soon became these colorful 8.5" blocks.

Which are quickly filling up one of my design walls.  I am not sure exactly how big this quilt will be, but I still have more than half of the blocks to sew.

And my "Kaffe" scrap bin is still intact.  Of course,  once I looked at all the scrappy bits that were left, I thought they might make a colorful scrap quilt for me to create in the future.

Oh well, at least the bin is no longer over-flowing!
