Oh Scrap! : I almost missed it!

I realized in the middle of the night that I had not prepared the post for Oh Scrap! - and we can't have that!  So I trudged across the hall half asleep and quickly wrote this post.

We had a couple of days of beautiful weather and rather than sew, I have been spending my time in my gardens.  Right now, they do not look as green and lush as this photo but they are filled with new growth and will be springing forth shortly!

Happy Sunday everyone...I am going back to bed!

That was Quick!

Just last Sunday, I shared with you my Staggered 16-Patch Scrappy quilt top.

Now today, I am ready to share my finish!

I ended up having some time on my longarm schedule so I snuck it in and quilted up some quick vertical straight lines.

You can see that this quilt used up a number of gray scraps in the 16-patch squares.  Then I pulled three different fabrics from my stash for the alternate blocks.  Rather than make the alternate blocks square, I opted for a narrower rectangle.

I really like the results!

I used one of the fabrics I recently picked up from Connecting Threads on the back.  And I had just enough of a gray fabric with purple dots for the binding.

I wish I could say this quilt put a dent in my gray scraps - but I still seem to have a basket full.
But I will have to give my attention to other colors right now that are exceeding their storage areas!

Wishing all of you a wonderful weekend.

Happy Friday!

Oh Scrap! : Staggered 16-Patch

There are about three different projects all actively being sewn in my sewing room.  There are always stacks of blocks in various stages piled next to my machine.  This week I have just been sewing, pressing, and creating more stacks.

Surprisingly, I ended up with a finished quilt top fairly fast!

I tried to get a photo of the top outside but the shadows were horrible.  This is the staggered 16 patch I made using a bunch of my gray scraps.

I dug some other pieces out of my stash to use as alternate blocks.
I love the purple with the gray!

Here is a late night photo of it hanging on my design wall.  I can't wait to get this one quilted up.

I am also working on sewing up those flannel strips.

(You can just see my Sew Kitschy blocks are peeking out from under these blocks.  I have told myself I can't take them down until I get that top sewn up - as you can see, I have found another solution!)

Note:  I think a number of us who host linky parties have been faced with moving over to a new version of Inlinkz.  We have all been holding out for as long as we can!

But starting April first, we will all need to move.  Sorry, this means a few more steps.  We all hope you will continue to link up with all of us.  We love to share what you are making!!

*********************************************

It is now your turn to share what you are making with scraps.  Here are the details for linking up:

  • This linky party is for any scrappy project - It can be in-process or a finished piece.
  • You can link up your blog post (not your homepage please) or Instagram photo from the past week that features your use of scraps.
  • If you are linking to a blog post, I ask that you link back to my blog somewhere in your post. So if you are writing about scraps, just get into the habit of including a link as there will be a linky party available every week!
  • If you are using Instagram, please use the hashtag #ohscrap.
  • This is a party so remember to socialize and comment on the posts of others.
  • Following my blog is not necessary but it sure would be great if you do!

Please Adopt Me!

Sometimes when I make projects with big bonus triangles, I save them and have great plans of turning them into a quilt.  Such was the case with this project that now needs a new home.

I made the HSTs from the leftovers from a Layers of Charm quilt made with Amy Ellis' Modern Neutrals fabric collection.  You can see the quilt here.  There are 36 4" HSTs (they will finish at 3.5").  I am including about a third of a yard of the terra cotta solid I used and a large strip from a coordinating fabric that can be used to make more HSTs if desired.  There is also a larger cut of the same print that could probably be pieced into about a 50" square backing.  But of course, this fabric can all be used however you desire.

If you would like to adopt these, please let me know in the comments that you are interested.
(Note, your comment should be made directly on my blog and not through Bloglovin' - it does not allow me access to your contact information so I have no way of getting ahold of you if you win.)

I will ship anywhere in the US for free.

I will be selecting a winner from those that are interested sometime on Sunday the 24th so be sure to comment before then.  If there is more than one candidate, I will select a winner using a random number generator.  Please make sure I can get ahold of you!  If you are not positive if your email is available, please leave it in your comment.  Thanks!

There are other items being adopted out by quilters so be sure and check them all out.  Also, if you have items you would like to put up for adoption, you have until the 23rd to link up.  Time to clean out those UFOs!

Looking for a New Home

A friend of mine had passed this little quilt top over to me.  It was a piece she had finished long ago and just didn't want to finish.  I always thought I might quilt it up and donate it but I just seem to never get around to it.

So it needs to find a good home!

It measures approximately 40" square.  The colors are a berry center, teal corners, purple corner stones and a soft lavender in all the sashing.  It needs a good pressing.

It would be perfect for someone who wants to practice free motion quilting or a quick quilt to finish up for Sarah's Hands2Help Jack's Basket quilt drive.

Spring 2019 Quilty Orphan Adoption Event

Do you have a long list of UFOs that you feel like you will never get done?
Adopting out an unloved UFO may be a better option than finishing it yourself!

Quilting is more fun than Housework

I have been working hard over the last four years to finish up a number of my UFOs.  I am now down to about 16 but there are still some on my list that I just know I will probably never finish.  I know I SHOULD finish them - but if I am honest with myself, there are just far too many other projects I want to make and it is highly unlikely I will go back and finish some of these older ones.

Well my friends, it is time to get those projects out of our sewing rooms and into the hands of someone that will finish them!  Over the years, I have adopted out about a dozen projects and I have never given them a second thought. (And it felt so good to cross them off my UFO list!)

This Quilty Orphan Adoption event helps in getting those projects to quilters that will finish them and give them some much deserved attention.  And I can say from experience, it feels great to release the burden and move onto something you really want to work on!

Here is a photo of a quilt made with some diamond shapes I had adopted out a few years ago.  I think it is stunning.  If I had not sent those out, they would still be in my stash!

And the quilt was donated to a children's charity so that warms my heart.

**************************************************************

Now it is time for this Spring's Quilty Adoption Event!

Orphan Adoption Event

March 21st through March 23rd 2019

Here are some more details:
1.  I am going to ask that any "orphan" linked up must be given away for free.  (If you are wanting to destash for money, there are other venues to do that on.)  I think it is fair that if you need to, you can ask that shipping costs be paid.  Just be sure and put that information clearly in your post.  And know that both parties enter into the deal at their own risk.  I hold no responsibility.
2. Have clear pictures and descriptions on what you are putting up for adoption.
3. Define the criteria for how you will decide who will adopt the item.  Is it a random number giveaway, do you only want it to go to charity, or is there some other criteria that needs to be met?
4.  Be sure and identify where you are located and where you are willing to ship to.
5. Define how long you are keeping the adoption open and when you expect to award the adoption.
6. Remember to link back to my blog so your readers can see what else is being offered.  And feel free to grab a button!

The ability to link up your blog, Instagram, Flickr, or Facebook post will be open through the end of the day Saturday March 23rd.  You can award your adoption on any date you choose after Sunday the 24th.  Feel free to offer as little or as much as you want.  It can be blocks, books/patterns, kits, printed panels, fabric, quilt tops...anything that you hope someone else will use and you wish to get rid of the burden.

********************

And if you are looking to adopt a project, please read each blog post and be sure you only offer to adopt those orphans you know you can finishThe object of this event is to get these things finished, not just stored on another shelf.  Thanks!
