Oh Scrap! : Finally Purple Scraps

Here we are, almost the end of July and I just got out my bin of purple scrap for the Rainbow Scrap Challenge.

The first thing I did was to sort out some big chunks that were large enough for my Positivity  Quilt.  I sewed up these 12 blocks last week.

Yesterday I was able to finish another five.  I still need 7 more.  I have all the pieces cut; I just need to sew up the blocks.

But I have sad news - my favorite Bernina 830 machine (Sparky) went in to be repaired.  He was starting to sound more like a tank.  I was told his motor is shot and finding motors for these machines is nearly impossible.

So he will need to be retired for use as parts for my other two Berninas.  I still have another 830 (The Lovely Lucy) and an adorable 810 (Wee Willie).  But Sparky and I have made a lot of quilts together!

He will be greatly missed!

I will be pretty productive once I retrieve Lucy from her storage place.  I have a large stack of cut pieces waiting to be sewn.  I am hoping that next week will be a productive one!

It is now your turn to share what you are making with scraps.  Here are the details for linking up:

  • This linky party is for any scrappy project - It can be in-process or a finished piece.
  • You can link up your blog post (not your homepage please) or Instagram photo from the past week that features your use of scraps.
  • If you are linking to a blog post, I ask that you link back to my blog somewhere in your post. So if you are writing about scraps, just get into the habit of including a link as there will be a linky party available every week!
  • If you are using Instagram, please use the hashtag #ohscrap.
  • This is a party so remember to socialize and comment on the posts of others.
  • Following my blog is not necessary but it sure would be great if you do!

I have seen the positivity block made several different ways now, I will have to sketch them all down so I can decide which I want when i get around to making it. Sorry your machine has bit the dust

I like your Positivity blocks. You are currently working with my two favorite colors. I am amazed that you had 3 of those machines. I have only a lowly Kenmore sewing machine. I hope Lucy works well for you.

That is too bad about your favorite machine - I hope the two backups can fill in with gusto! Your Positivity blocks are looking good in purple. Glad you've gotten a little purple sewing in this week!

Love your blocks. So many different purples! And sorry about your favorite machine. They're almost like pets, aren't they?

Sparky, the Lovely Lucy, Wee Willie ... you are too much! Thanks for the laugh along with the peeks of your lovely blocks. said...

May Sparky live on to help Lovely Lucy and Wee Willie continue piecing away! It is sad when the parts of favorite machine wear out. Your purple blocks are lovely!

Sorry to hear about the loss of Sparky - it's always hard when we have to retire one of our favourites :)
Lovely purple blocks!

Love all these twisty blocks!!! Sorry about your 830, but great you have 2 more in the wings! I have a 1090 and hope to sew on it to my last day-no upgrades for me, it's just humming along.

It's hard to say goodbye to a favorite machine which has served you well. Hopefully Lovely Lucy will step into the fray and keep you pushing out projects as fast as you can.

I have an antique 830 that also needed a new motor. My go to repair shop had the motor--it would work outside of the machine, but once they put it into the machine it wouldn't work. So my baby took a trip to someone in one of the Carolinas who had retired from Bernina and would only work on machines by his choice. I am so happy he said 'yes, I will fix this one". It once again purrs like a kitten and just keeps sewing :-) And I was never charged for shipping going or coming back. And BTW, I've gone through 2 foot pedals on this sweetheart. She goes in once a year for her annual physical and deep cleaning

So sorry about Sparky. Our favorite machines are like sewing partners. I love your purple positivity blocks, great fabrics!

So sorry to hear about Sparks’s demise. It’s tough to lose our old sewing pals. But your blocks are beautiful!
