I am still working on sewing up some of my really old stash pieces.
I had a one yard cut of an older Laurel Burch fish border fabric that I thought I would turn into something fun. I pulled a bunch of bright scraps and cut them into 2.5" squares to use with it.
I had a really limited amount of the fish fabric so I carefully fussy cut it into 6.5' and 4.5" strips. Then I added the scrappy squares to make these two 8" block designs.
To assemble the quilt top, I used the same concept as one of my Scrap-A-Palooza quilts. This design is one of my favorites and it worked perfectly for the fish border print.
It is really a bright and happy quilt top - these sun-reflecting photos do not do it justice.
It finished up at about 40" square.
For the quilting, I used a sapphire blue thread and quilted in some swirls. The backing is the same stripe as the RSC quilt I just finished. There was just enough leftover for this little beauty.
I considered a bright blue or a purple solid for the binding and decided to go with the purple. I thought it framed the quilt better.
I have a few more stash pieces I have pulled to see if I can get inspired to sew them up. But I got side-tracked by some scraps...
So there should be more finishes in the near future!

What a perfect pattern for clearing out old fabrics! I don't think I have ever seen Laurel Burch fish fabric before!
wonderful quilt - hard to believe it is from scraps:)
I love this plan for using every bit of a fabric! It's so bright and happy!
Oooh, I've been waiting to see how this quilt top came together and it is super bright and happy! I like that you rotated the blocks to create the diagonal movement.
Good for you to use up older fabrics in such a fun way. I'm trying to use up my older fabrics too, but it's a very slow process.
I like how the blocks you made turned into the zigzag design - I wasn't expecting that! Fun and bright - and definitely the perfect backing fabric!
Thank you for the Kona solids tip. After working with that fabric line, I am sold. They are a perfect quilting weight. I never have solids and I bought up quite a few, some chosen for a particular fabric print I have fallen in love with and want to spin into a quilt. Anyone wanting Caribbean Blue - I bought it up. *grins*
Oh my eyes, my eyes :-D
Love the brightness. Love the colors and the fabulousness of it all.
Another inspirational creation.
Wonderful way to stretch a single yard of fabric!!!
So bright! So colorful!!! It is just the best!!! Great job!
Wow! I am always amazed at how you can make something so beautiful from scraps and usually with the simplest of designs!
So bright and colourful. So glad you were able to leave the fish fabric in the larger pieces so the fabric could be appreciated.
If you hadn't said anything about this quilt being scraps...we never would have known! It looks like it was planned out ahead of time! Well done on this one. Love the fish!
Oh what a cool design. This would make a great kids charity quilt and would be fast and easy. I tend to get too fiddly and then it takes too long to finish. I'll need to tuck this idea away for future use.

Love your quilt and pinned it!
Laurel Burch would love this!
You will have to include some sunglasses with the quilt!! Just kidding, some child will love it as it is a happy quilt.
That looks just wonderful and what a great use of scraps - so creative and fun!
Oh very nice, and very clever cutting of the fish fabric. Love the design.
Fantastic way to showcase those Laurel Burch fishies!
That worked really well. Nicely done.
What a darling quilt. Your bright scraps went perfectly with the happy fish. Great finish.
What a wonderful use of scraps and a novelty print. Those bright squares play very nicely with the fish!
