Happy Scrappy

We have some Happy and some Scrappy finishes today.

First, there is Happy Quilt #59. This little quilt is all about zoo animals. I also used only yellow, orange, blue and green blocks for this one.

I picked these colors to match the adorable jungle fabric sent in by Helen.  There wasn't a lot of it but I had a light brown solid that matched beautifully.

This little quilt measure 40 x 48".

This next quilt is my scrappy Two Bits quilt.  I started with some 9-patches that were in my spare parts box.  Then I made the blocks in a rainbow of colors.  Making all these donation quilts, I end up with a lot of scraps from trimmed backings so you will find a number of them in these blocks. It is nice to find a home for them.

The front of the quilt is super bright so I thought I would put a muted fabric on the back.  This backing piece was given to me by my neighbor - she is now out tracking down fabric for these quilts.  She says loves the hunt!

It takes a lot of fabric to back all these quilts so I appreciate all the help I can get!

This week I am focused on quilting Compassion Quilts - so I am hoping to work through a bunch of the stack waiting to be quilted.  I just delivered 25 quilts to the hospital so my inventory of finished quilts is pretty depleted.  I will be working on quilts for adults and a few quilts for veterans.

Friday I hope to have two Log Cabin quilts ready to share.  I just have the binding to sew!

Oh Scrap! : More Green

With all the ice we had this week, I did find time to sew a few scraps.

I still have my green scrap bin out, so I made four more Two Bit blocks for my scrappy quilt.

I also made seven of these scrappy rectangles.  I don't know what to call them - they are really the start to a block.  I will eventually sew on a 2.5" strip to the top and bottom but I don't know what that fabric will be.  For now, I will just add them to the stack of purple ones I made.

Oh Scrap! : Green

It was such a busy week that I didn't get in much scrap play.  But I did get out my green scraps and start making some blocks.

I started 5 blocks but only one made it to completion.  If the power stays on during the ice storm, I hope to get the rest completed by the end of the weekend.

These blocks are made using my Two Bit pattern.

What have you made with scraps this week?

More Misc Finishes

I have a few more miscellaneous compassion quilt finishes to share today.  Over the holidays I got busy and quilted up a number of quilt tops - I am finally finishing the binding on a few.

Someone sent me in a huge stack of colorful string blocks.  I was able to sort them into two quilt tops.  Here is the first finish I made with them.  I know this quilt will bring a much-deserved smile to someone's lips.  It is so lovely!

This dotted wide backing was donated by a few people.  This piece came from Margaret.

This lovely quilt measures 50 x 70".

Karen donated this kit quite a while ago.  I was finally able to get it quilted up.  Sorry for the poor photo but it has some pretty lions, tigers and cheetahs on the front.

Karen also pieced and donated the backing and the binding.

I have been wanting to get this quilt finished up for a long time.  Isn't it wonderful?  Gail used my Two Bits pattern to make this lovely Veterans Quilt.  She also sent in a complete kit with backing and binding.

After our first Veteran Block drive, I had so many completed Veteran quilts, I had to hold off on making any more.  I am finally at the point where I need some for my February delivery.

Here is a fun close up of the backing.  Gail had sent in a blue binding but I decided to use a star and striped binding I already had.  I can easily use the blue on another quilt but this RWB one is more limited.  Plus it is a lot of fun on this quilt!

This quilt measures 60 x 72".

I hope to have more to share on Friday, so I hope you come back to see them!

Oh Scrap! : More Two Bit Blocks

Most of this week was spent quilting and sewing the bindings on Compassion Quilts.

But I did get out my purple scrap bin and make four more Two Bit blocks.  I think I just need nine more blocks to have enough for the quilt size I want.

I was hoping to have all the blocks completed by the end of the year but I am still happy to have made as many as I have.  I HAVE been a bit busy lately...

As I was pulling scraps out of my purple bin, I also pulled appropriate scraps to start making another block that I hope to start making in January.  Hopefully by next Sunday I will have some to share.

Wishing all of you a Happy New Year!
I hope 2024 brings all of you much happiness.

Oh Scrap! : Red Two Bits

I did a small bit of scrap sewing this week.  The red scrap bin was calling my name, so I decided to make a few Two Bit blocks.

I pulled the 9 patches out of my spare parts box so all I had to do was pull some strings out of my scraps to complete the blocks.  I will add these to my already completed stack.  I still need 15 blocks - maybe next week i will sew up some purple ones!

Oh Scrap! : Two Bit Blocks

 Happy Sunday!

This whole weekend I have been fighting a horrible head cold.

It has certainly turned my brain to mush!

I don't do well laying around while I am sick so I got out my blue scraps and made some two-bit blocks.

I wanted to see where I was regarding blocks so I put them up on my design wall.  Originally, I was going to make a 5 x 6 layout but I think I am going to do a 60" x 70" quilt for my Compassion Quilt project.  That means I need 19 more blocks - definitely needs red, pink and purple.  And probably a few greens.  The fabrics in these blocks are all over the place.  I have been trying hard to use the "unloved" strips in my scrap bins.

What scrappy things have you been working on?

Oh Scrap! : More Two Bit Blocks

I had a little bit of time this week to sew so I thought I would get out a bin of scraps and sew up a few more Two Bits blocks.  I thought my yellow bin might be fun to play with.

I made these five Two Bits blocks.  I already had the 9-patches in my parts department so it was just a matter of sewing on the strips.  I was surprised to find that my yellow scrap bin really doesn't have a lot of true yellow scraps.  I have lots of gold, and acid green/yellow.  But I think that is what makes a scrap quilt so much fun!

What have you been sewing with your scraps?
